How many different types of Band-Aids do you have at your house?
Q. We have a least 3. The real Band-Aids. (for real scrapes...becau se they actually stick) The Dollar Tree ones for the everyday "emergencies".. .where I see no blood. And the rainbow ones that are the middle of the road quality. K- it looks as if I need to make improvements to my first aid collection. Candy and booze do seem quite necessary...tho ugh, in my house the medicine is kept in the cabinet above the fridge...right next to the booze.

A. Bring in like a severed cow's head as a prop and it will scare them straight. Usually you can get them from a butcher or you can just chop off a cow's head if you own cattle. It is a really good way to be persuasive.

Does FM listening devices work better than hearing aids?
Q. I am hard of hearing and I wear hearing aids however in class last semester, I still had a very hard time hearing. The office of disability support on my campus offered a FM listening device. Will that work better? If so, what is the purpose of spending thousands of dollars on hearing aids (besides convenience) when you can get a listening device for so cheap? I have made appointments to get my hearing evaluated and my hearing aids checked.

A. FMs and hearing aids are two different things fm systems and assistive listening devices (ALDs) are not just used in theaters and churches anymore. It is your right under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to access needed modifications such as a taper recorder, preferential seating, a note taker or FM system. please note that bilateral hearing aids improve localization and amplifies sounds... including sounds in specific frequencies based on your individual audiogram. fm systems just amplifies the speakers voice which reduces the background noise. There are several types of FM systems that can be used in the classroom. FM systems are composed of a FM transmitter and a receiver. The FM transmitter or the microphone and its… [cont.]

how likely are you to get aids from accidently rubbing your cut on someone elses cut?
Q. Is the only way people get aids from cut-to-cut contact is if they're bored and say to their friend "hey, lets rub our cuts together!"? How likely are you to accidently rub your cut on someone elses who has aids?
Asked by Hector - Sat Dec 26 14:06:33 2009 - STDs - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Well you reduce your chances to zero if you dont do something as silly as rubbing your cut on someone elses. Theres other things such as hepatitis you can get anyway so a tip is just never do that.

Q. how long does it you to die from AIDS
Asked by LBs Bestt - Fri Jun 13 18:26:15 2008 - Infectious Diseases - 4 Answers - 2 Comments

A. These days, with treatments, many people who are HIV+ can live healthier longer than they could in the past. Medications won't kill the virus, but can increase the amount of time between diagnosis of HIV and diagnosis of AIDS. The amount of time a person lives with HIV depends on many factors, including the health of the person before infection, the person's response to the virus, and the person's response to treatment. A person whose illness has progressed to AIDS is more likely to die more quickly, because at that point, other infections such as colds, flu, and pneumonia can be deadly. However, again, it is impossible to say just how long the person will live.

How much would it cost to get my dog tested for aids?
Q. I saw my neighbor pet my dog yesterday when she was walking down the street. The rumor going around is that she is hiv+ and has aids and I think it is very possible she gave it to my dog. Ive been careful enough to not touch my dog just in case it has aids now, but I really need to take it to the vet. Just wondering how much aids testing costs on dogs.
Asked by Randall O - Tue Mar 11 08:48:28 2008 - Dogs - 12 Answers - 2 Comments

A. Dogs can't get AIDS. Cats have there own disease that is similar to AIDS but it cannot be transferred from people to cat or vica versa. You need to read up more on AIDS and HIV. You cannot get AIDS or HIV by touching another person or from an object that the person has touched. HIV is passed through unprotected sex, sharing needle/syringes , and blood transfusions with contaminated blood. One of my professors felt that AIDS was a disease that a person wanted to catch as it was spread by mainly deviant behavior (except for blood transfusions). Stop being paranoid...your dog doesn't have AIDS.

A. omg...ok the only way to get aids that way is if you have a cut on your hand that was gushing out blood and you touched the red stuff with that cut and smothered it all over and in that cut. you cannot get aids just by touching it. if you're having sex with someone and switch bodily fluids, that's one way to get it. as long as it doesnt get into your blood system, you're fine. just wash your hands with soap and warm/hot water and sing the whole ABCs before you rinse!

What's the difference between cold sores, herpies, and aids?
Q. Specifically, I'm trying to compile information on the differences between various forms of infectious diseases and viruses. I'm confused on the severity of these conditions. Are cold sores dangerous, where do they usually originate, and how common are they? Are cold sores identified as herpes? Can someone easily catch herpes through non-sexual interaction. Is aids only transferred in cases of sexual intercourse? Excuse me for my bluntness, but what precautions are necessary to practice. Can you be born with such a condition and continue to be unaware your harboring a communicable condition?
Asked by P G - Sun Nov 28 00:05:34 2010 - STDs - 4 Answers - Comments

A. There isn't a difference between cold sores and herpes, cold sores are caused by oral herpes. But herpes and aids are totally different viruses. Oral herpes can be passed on with out having sex, they are often passed during child hood by being kissed by some one that has cold sores. Cold sores are very common to have 50-80 percent of the population has them on the mouth. Genital herpes how ever is not easily contracted with out having oral sex or some kind of sexual activity. The herpes virus dies very quickly once it's in open air or on on an object. It's also not passed through body fluids, blood or saliva. It's passed through skin contact like kissing some one that has a visible cold sore or having intercourse with some one that has… [cont.]

Asked by Stinkerbell E - Sat Apr 2 23:54:21 2011 - STDs - 4 Answers - Comments

A. You will get HIV first not AIDS. HIV develops to AIDS after a period of time without drugs. You will need to get tested after about 5 months. That is it's general incubation period before it can be detected. Do go get tested after 5 months but if you have any symptoms of other std's get tested for those before hand. edit the person below me is a bit misinformed. You can detect it as early as 3 months but to have an accurate reading it has to be 5 months. Unless you have the money to be tested twice I suggest you just wait till 5 months.

Can aids infected blood enter a dry healing cut?
Q. For aids to spread through blood to blood contact, would both the aids infected person and aids-free person need to be bleeding? Or can aids spread through dry cuts that aren't bleeding? And how likely are you to get aids without doing anything involving dirty needles or having unprotected sex?
Asked by Hector - Sat Dec 26 13:54:11 2009 - STDs - 2 Answers - Comments

A. A scab acts as a barrier so most of the time you'd be just fine if you got AIDS infected blood on a scab or healing wound... BUT if there is a crack or opening in the scab you could possibly become infected but chances are low. More of a risk if you had a huge, gaping bleeding wound that came in contact with a large amount of AIDS infected blood.

How do you contract Aids if you're having sex with multiple girls and using a condom?
Q. I Don't mind having sex with many girls, but what are the chances of catching Aids while using a condom???
Asked by Ron - Tue Mar 1 18:23:21 2011 - STDs - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Well the more people you have sex with, the more risk. Using LATEX condoms are the only protection from AIDS/HIV, but that is not even close to 100%, but it is effective. If you are having casual sex, and/or are not in long term monogamous relationships, the chances are increased simply because you have much more exposure. It is easy to be inconsistent with condoms or wear them wrong or buy non-latex without noticing. These are things to consider.

A. "How much money can we give Africa to end poverty?" It's not about just money anymore. It's about Africans getting the knowledge and access they need to take care of themselves and their own problems. That takes money to fund the programs necessary to achieve that, but it also takes an approach that gives Africans themselves control over their lives and situation. "What exactly is the issue in Africa that causes the poverty and AIDs?" There is no one issue that causes poverty and AIDS in Africa -- and all the issues together can't be named in a Yahoo Answer box. Among the many, many things that cause poverty in Africa: history of exploitation (of the people and African resources) by others, corruption, lack of/denial of… [cont.]

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a disease of the human immune system caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The illness interferes with the immune system making people with AIDS much more likely to get infections, including opportunistic infections and tumors that do not affect people with working immune systems. This susceptibility gets worse as the disease continues.
